Welcome to the Summer 2018 TBR Wipeout Challenge

Summer 2018 TBR Wipeout ChallengeWelcome to the Summer 2018 TBR Wipeout Challenge, hosted by The Candid Cover.  It is the chance for you to get some of those books off of your Want to Read list.  Signups will be going on until July 5th.  Plus, you could win a prize just for signing up!  Good deal, yeah?

I have set a goal to read 10 books between now and when this challenge ends, on August 12th.  That’s about two per week.  If I read more, great!  If not, The Candid Cover is going to come to my house and flog me (well, not really; this is a low-pressure challenge).

So what am I going to read for the summer TBR challenge?  I’m not 100% sure, but I am on the waiting list for several books at the library and Amazon is delivering a few more.

Here are the book series on my waiting list.  If they become available, I will read them:

  • Throne of Glass Series – 6 books
  • Mortal Instruments Series – 5 books (I read City of Bones already, you can read my review here)
  • Red Queen Series – 4 books
  • Caraval Series – 2 books

I’m currently reading Origin by Dan Brown and will probably finish that in the next day or two.

I checked out Ever the Hunted from the library and am on the waiting list for Ever the Brave by Erin Summerill.  I’m #5 on the waiting list for the second, so it may not become available during the Summer TBR Wipeout, but if it is, I’ll probably end up reading it.

With part of my birthday Amazon credits, I recently bought:

  • Batman: Nightwalker – Marie Lu – I am normally not into superheroes or anything, but I like every other book that she has written, and I guess I’m wondering if she could do the superhero theme justice.
  • Rora – James Byron Huggins – this has been on my TBR for more than 5 years.  I figure I should probably read it.
  • This Savage Song – Victoria Schwab – it looked interesting and it was on sale for $1.99, so I figured that I should get it.

Outside of the books listed above, I don’t have any top priority books at the moment for the TBR Wipeout Challenge.  There are a  few books coming out on September 18th that I want to read fairly badly, but they’re not out yet.  So, for the most part, I will probably let serendipity be my guide as I pick books to read.  I’m trying to read about one pre-release ARC per week, so I’ll probably pick out books from there that sound good at the time.  Lately, I’ve been seeing quite a few sale announcements on Twitter for books I want to read (I’ll try to remember to post them here when I see them); if I see a book that I’ve been thinking about reading and I can get it for cheap, I’ll probably end up getting that.

I hope you join me for the TBR Wipeout Challenge and get some of those books off your TBR list!

  1. I’m joining in the challenge, too! It looks like you’ve got a lot, FOUR series?? I’ve had my eye on The Mortal Instruments for quite a while now but I’m not sure if it’s worth the hype. I don’t think I’ve read a lot of hyped books…

    1. Most of the books in the series won’t become available during the challenge. My position on the waiting list ranges from 2 to 54. The book that I’m 54 on the waiting list probably won’t be ready for me to check out until 2019.

      Good luck on your challenge!

  2. I’m working on my post for this challenge right now too. It’s hard to prioritize what I want to read, but I should have a tentative list later today. Your list looks great. I love This Savage Song when I read it and have been wanting to start the Throne of Glass series for ages.

    Good luck with the challenge!

    1. When I originally wrote this post, I had no clue what I’d be reading. For the most part, I’m letting serendipity be my guide… like what books become available at the library. But sometimes a few books start saying “read me” at once.

Looking forward to seeing what you’re planning on reading!

  3. Hahaha!! I am never going to flog you! I want you to enjoy your summer!! I hope that you love all of these amazing selections. ToG is one series that I want to get caught up on at some point myself. Happy reading! 🙂

    1. ToG just became available at the library yesterday! I’m still 13th on the waiting list for book 2 though. Caraval also became available, and I’m reading Ever the Hunted right now. I’m actually a little glad that there’s a long wait list for some of these books, because if they all become available at once I’m going to have a hard time reading them all before they’re due. Although I’m pretty sure I’m finishing Ever the Hunted today. It’s so good!

  4. Hahaha Flog You!! I hope she doesn’t stop by my house to do the same! =)
I want to read all of these series to be honest. I have almost all of the Mortal Instrument series and haven’t read them yet. I think I might be missing the 6th. Anyway, good luck with the challenge! I am working on my first book and hope to have it done this weekend!

    1. Good luck with the challenge! I got Ever the Hunted from the library today and I only put it down because I had to go to work! Then I finished it at “lunch” (since I worked 4-11, “lunch” was at 8 PM, LOL).

  5. Best of luck on your challenge! I have read a couple of the books on your list and started some of the series you’ve mentioned. I have read This Savage Song and it was pretty interesting. I’m undecided on reading Batman: Nightwalker just because I’m not a huge fan of Batman so I’m not sure if I’d actually enjoy the book.

    1. It’s certainly outside of the normal genres I read… but I said once that Marie Lu could write about the alphabet and make it a good book… I guess I’ll see if that’s true or not. Gotta read these library books I got first though.
