Books on My Fall TBR (Top Ten Tuesday)

Can you believe it’s already that time again, for another season to change?  It’s almost fall, and today for Top Ten Tuesday, we’re going to talk about books that are on my fall TBR (or, books I want to read this fall).  Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.  This week, I’ll be putting them in the order that they’re most likely to be read in.

Wildcard coverIf you’re reading this post between the hours of… 1:30 PM and about 9 PM Mountain Daylight Time, there’s a really good chance that I’ll be reading Marie Lu’s book Wildcard.  I’ve been waiting for this book for freaking ever, and I pre-ordered this book in April.  Then I’ll be writing my review for this book, so you’ll probably see that up here if you’re reading this blog shortly after that.

Addicted to Outrage coverLater on this week, I’ll probably be reading Glenn Beck’s new book, Addicted to Outrage.  It’s going to be released today as well, but guess which of these books I’m reading first?  Wildcard.  I think this is one of those books that people should read.  Everybody seems so angry these days, and I just can’t help but think to myself (like Rodney King, google it) “Can’t we all just get along?”

City of Fallen Angels coverI read City of Bones in June, and I put the rest of The Mortal Instruments series on hold at the library right after that.  City of Fallen Angels just became available at my library, and I expect City of Lost Souls to become available soon.  I bought City of Heavenly Fire when I realized that that particular book was moving up on my waiting list a little too quickly and my library loan would expire before I could get the earlier books.  So I’ll be reading the rest of this series this fall.  Then I’ll have to start her other series, but I want to wait until some of these “must read now books” are cleared from my TBR.

Legendary CoverLegendary is another book that I’ve been waiting to read since June. I’m going to be a very busy reader for the next three weeks, because this just became available at my library, so I have to read this right after City of Fallen Angels. I loved Caraval, and I’m looking forward to getting the chance to find out what happens!

Muse of Nightmares coverEver since I read Strange the Dreamer, I wanted to read its sequel, Muse of Nightmares, as well.  This is one of the books that have pre-ordered.  I have a physical copy of Strange the Dreamer, and I hope to have a matching copy of its sequel as well.  I’m looking forward to reading it!

Fawkes coverRemember, remember the 5th of November!  I first heard of Fawkes this summer, and I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to get it or not.  The historical aspect of this story intrigued me, but I kept hearing mixed reviews of it.  I finally decided that I wanted to read it.  It’s on sale right now at Amazon.com for only $1.99 (through the end of the month).  I was originally just going to borrow it from the library, but I couldn’t pass it up at that price.

A Thousand Perfect Notes coverBy now, most book bloggers have heard of Paper Fury’s book, A Thousand Perfect Notes. I bought this book when I saw that it went on sale for $.99, and I just haven’t had time to read it yet. Hopefully, I’ll get around to reading it this fall. I don’t have the beautiful hardback cover with both sides of the butterfly, but I’m on a budget.

Children of Blood and Bone coverWhen I first put myself on the waiting list for Children of Blood and Bone at my local library, I was #96.  I figured that I wouldn’t be able to read this book until some time in 2019, but then I realized that my library has 11 copies of this book.  Our library has 3 week loan periods.  I did the math, and if the loan period was 22 days (to make it simple), then I would move one spot up on the waiting list every 2 days.  That means that it will become available sometime this fall.

Empire of Storms coverEmpire of Storms and Tower of Dawn are two of the books that I expect to read this fall.  Empire of Storms has a really short to nonexistent waiting list at the library, and I bought Tower of Dawn when it went on sale at Amazon.com for $2.99.  I could have started reading them a few weeks ago, but I was a little exhausted from reading a bunch of really long books back-to-back, and I needed to take a break for a bit.  Reading Kingdom of Ash will probably have to wait until winter, because it probably won’t be available to read by then.  I can’t even request my library to get a copy yet.

My True Love Gave to Me coverEver since I read Summer Days and Summer Nights in July, I had planned on reading its counterpart, My True Love Gave to Me, in December.  It’s been on my blog schedule since them.  I plan on reviewing it on December 6th, giving people plenty of time to read my review and find a copy if they want to read it.  So while technically this is a winter book, since I plan on reading it at the very beginning of December, it will still be fall when I read it.

This week’s list was a little strange to do, because I tend to be a very serendipitous reader, reading whatever I feel like at the moment.  However, with all of the new releases and library books that I have on hold, it seems that most of my reading this fall has already been decided for me.

I can’t wait to see what other people will be reading this fall.  What is on your Top Ten Tuesday list this week?

Up next week on Top Ten Tuesday:  Books By Awesome Authors that I Haven’t Read.

  1. Ooh I hope you like Wildcard, and I look forward to that review! I have a few books ahead of it so I’m hoping it’s good even as I wait to get to it! And I really enjoyed My True Love- I need more holiday anthologies and while not every story was great (naturally), I did enjoy it overall.

    1. I hope you like it as well! I think most people so far have liked it… although I know one blogger who thought it was completely awful. Considering my track record with Marie Lu books, I’m about 99% sure that I’m going to like it.

Glad you liked My True Love Gave to Me as well! I have a couple of anthologies that I recently added to my TBR that I may or may not get to reading this fall, but these Top Ten Tuesday posts have gotten me to branch out and read more of them!

  2. I absolutely loved Legendary and Children of Blood and Bone! Hope you will as well!

Can’t wait for Wildcard and Kingdom of Ash to arrive. I’ve yet to get myself a copy of A Thousand Perfect Notes and Fawkes, but I will eventually. Both sound so good.

I’m even more eagerly awaiting the arrival of Escaping from Houdini, hah. Since reading Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula, I’m so ready for more creepy vibes. 😀

    Happy reading!

Here’s my TTT should you be interested. 🙂

    1. I haven’t read Stalking Jack the Ripper yet, so Escaping from Houdini is something far off into the future, I suppose. Gotta read the series I already started first! But they do sound good.

  3. Fall is my favorite season! Woot! You’ve got a great list of books to look forward to. I’m reading A Thousand Perfect Notes right now, and let me tell you, woooo, it’s a good one. I’m so in love with Cait’s writing style! And her characters! And I’m still only 45% through it and must finish it but I don’t want to because I’m not ready for it to be over, because it’s so good!

Legendary and Strange the Dreamer/Muse of Nightmares are on my TBR, too, but I don’t think I’ll get to them for a little while, sadly. Children of Blood and Bone was a bit of a miss for me, but other people seem to really enjoy it, so I hope you do, too. 🙂

    1. A few of these just popped up at the library, so I’ll be very busy because I only have 21 days to read them all! Looking forward to reading Cait’s book… after I finish reading these library books before they expire!

  4. Wildcard and Muse of Nightmares is on my list this week too. I can’t wait for either of them. Legendary is fantastic. I think I may have liked it better than Caraval and I didn’t think that was possible. Hope you enjoy it! Also thank you for the heads up that Fawkes was on sale. I’ve wanted to read it but haven’t had the chance to get it before now. Hope you enjoy the books on your list 😀

    1. I need to read Legendary in the next three weeks; I’m glad you liked it.

You’re welcome about the Fawkes notice. I think I stalk the Amazon monthly deals every month and find the ones that are interesting. I spend way too much money on $1.99 books!

    1. I LOVED Wildcard! So at least I can now say I read one book on my fall TBR :-). I started City of Fallen Angels while I was waiting for Wildcard to arrive, and I’ll be reading that with Addicted to Outrage, so I’m getting a start on it already.

  5. So many books on your list that I want to read – the Marie Lu series, Strange the Dreamer and Muse of Nightmares, A Thousand Perfect Notes & Children of Blood and Bone! Excellent list, hopefully your fall reading is amazing.

  6. Children of Blood and Bone is on my list this week too but. I have it already and have for months and now I’m just… not reading it… as it sits there on the shelf. (Possibly your library will get your copy in before I pick it up but. Sometimes you’re just not ready to start a new series, I guess?) Hope you like it when you get your hands on it!

    1. Hahaha to my library getting me a copy before you read it. One thing about the library books, it’s definitely a way to motivate you to knock something off your TBR. Especially if you have to wait months to get it. I have two books that I have to read in the next few weeks or they go back to the library. Fortunately, I’ve been averaging about two books a week lately, so even though I have Addicted to Outrage and Muse of Nightmares to add to my list of reads in the next couple of weeks, I’ll probably get them all read.

  7. Children of Blood and Bone is on my list to read eventually, I have the audio. I think I have Strange the Dreamer too. I’m realizing with everyone’s picks that I have a ton of books just waiting in the wings that I haven’t picked up yet.

  8. Wildcard is a must for me. I don’t know when I will get to it, but I WILL read it, because I want to know what happened after that Warcross ending (which was rude!). I love all that is Shadowhunters, and am actually highly anticipating the final TDA book. Another rude and emotional ending there. Same for EoS. All these cliffys are making me a mess. My True Love Gave to Me was like most anthologies – some great stories, some meh, but I would say I really enjoyed it overall. I have been terrible with Legendary. I have had the book forever, but once my co-blogger reviewed it, I pushed it down the list. She said it was great. I really should read it before the last book comes out.

    1. Wildcard was outstanding.

I’m supposed to be reading Addicted to Outrage now (and I will be reading it some today) but I’m already immersed in City of Fallen Angels (I had a day to kill between my reread of Warcross and getting Wildcard) and I’m loving it now too.

I know about pushing books down the list. It helps when they’re library books that you have to return or new releases that you want to review on a specific date, I guess.

    1. Yeah I was 94 on the waiting list for Children of Blood and Bone when I put it on hold. I thought that being 60somthing on the wait list for War Storm was a lot! I’m “only” 58th now. They have 11 copies, so the list is moving a lot faster than The Cruel Prince. I was 36, I think, when I put that book on hold, and now I’m 27th. I put them both on hold on the same day. Don’t think that I’ll get that one until next year, which is why that one didn’t make this week’s list.

  9. *chants* Wildcard! Wildcard! Wildcard!

This is my most highly anticipated read of the season, but so much so that I’m almost a little scared to read it until I cool down a bit. I hope we both love it!

    1. 🙂 It was definitely my most anticipated read of the season. I had the whole day blocked off to read it (well, other than homeschool coop which I have to go to). If I worked on Tuesdays, I probably would have taken the day off.

I loved the book. It was weird going to work the next day though… kind of like, I read the book I’ve been waiting months to read, now what? feeling. Maybe that’s why I went on to read City of Fallen Angels next instead of Addicted to Outrage (which I plan on reviewing ASAP). I couldn’t get into a nonfiction book yet, I guess.

Hope you enjoy it! Have the tissues out for a couple of the chapters (20 and 31, specifically).

  10. I LOVED Fawkes! The magic system was really unique. I will confess that it did take me a minute to get everything straight, but once I did, I couldn’t read it fast enough. It’s definitely going to be on my Best of 2018 list. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! 🙂

    1. Good to hear that! I figure, since I waited this long to read it, that it would make a good book to read towards the end of October (close to the 5th of November). I have no clue how much reading I’ll get done in November because of NaNoWriMo, so I don’t want to wait until November to read it, but I’m looking forward to it!

    1. Looking forward to it! Although I’m willing to be patient for the Christmas season. It’s still September! Although I did see Christmas stuff on the shelves today at work…
