Books on My Spring 2019 TBR

Hello and welcome to another addition of Top Ten Tuesday, where we talk about our favorite books. This week, we’re going to talk about books that we plan to read this spring. As always, Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl!

First, let’s see how I did with my Winter 2018/19 TBR:

  • Empire of Storms/Tower of Dawn — Sarah J. Maas: Read
  • A Thousand Perfect Notes — C.G. Drews: Read
  • Twisted Roots — Shelly Goodman Wright: Read
  • The Girl King — Mimi Yu: Read
  • The Gilded Wolves — Roshani Chokshi: Read
  • The Invisible War — Ailsa Wild et. al.: Read
  • Shadow and Bone — Leigh Bardugo: Read
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses — Sarah J. Maas: Read
  • The Bear and the Nightingale — Katherine Arden: Unread
  • Sky in the Deep — Adrienne Young — Unread

8/10 books isn’t bad. Especially since one of the books on the list is actually composed of two very long books.

So here are some books I want to read this spring:

Kingdom of Ash Cover

I’ve been reading the Throne of Glass books since last summer. I have one more book to go: Kingdom of Ash. The book kind of fell into my cart at Walmart last November, so I don’t have to wait for the library to get it for me.

Ruin and Rising cover

Don’t you love it when you say “I have to read this series” for the longest time, and then you finally get around to reading the series and you love it? Well, I finally read the first two books in the Grisha Verse over the winter, and I just started reading this final book on Sunday night. I have the Six of Crows duology on audiobook to read as soon as I’m done with this one. Then I’ll have to read King of Scars, but there are other authors I want to read too, so I might not get to them this spring.

I pre-ordered The Priory of the Orange Tree, and even though it magically appeared on my Kindle on the evening of February 25th, I still haven’t read it yet. I got Four Dead Queens the same day, and since Four Dead Queens was shorter, I read it first. But it looks like it’s time to read this lovely little dragon book… at least sometime this spring.

The Bear and the Nightingale cover

I still want to read The Bear and the Nightingale. Even though the cover is pretty snowy. Sometimes it snows as late as May or June around here, so if I read it in the early spring, the mood might still match the weather. We just had a blizzard that kept me home from work last week, so the weather might match the cover for a while.

Since I’ve been doing pretty well with actually reading the books that I put on these seasonal TBRs, I figure I might as well roll over this book as well. Hopefully I’ll get to Sky in the Deep soon.

King of Fools cover

I scored an ARC for King of Fools, so I’ll definitely be reading this one, because I hope to write a review before it publishes. Whenever Amanda Foody talks about it on Twitter, I get excited to read it.

Spin the Dawn cover

Another book I have an ARC for is Spin the Dawn. This book doesn’t come out until early July, but I hope to read this one this spring, so I can have the review out a few weeks in advance.

Tiger at Midnight Cover

Ever since I saw a tweet from the author saying that The Tiger at Midnight had Legend as one of its comps, I knew I had to read it. I was hoping to see it on Netgalley, but since it’s not there and the book comes out next month, I pre-ordered it (the Kindle edition was a pretty good deal).

Ghosts of the Shado Market cover

Ghosts of the Shadow Market doesn’t come out until June, but I pre-ordered it months ago. I’ll probably start reading this one on release day. Its 624 pages, so I probably won’t finish it on release day.

The Poppy War cover

I bought The Poppy War last summer when it was on sale. It’s one of the books I meant to read last year, but never got around to. There’s way too many of those. But at least there’s several older books on my Spring TBR, so I’m getting some of them read.

So that’s my Spring TBR. Some old, some new, one that I’ll borrow, some that are blue. What’s on your Spring TBR? Did you manage to read most of the books on your Winter TBR, or do you prefer to wing it most of the time?

Next week I’ll be posting about Audiobooks. I don’t read a lot of audiobooks, so I’ll probably post 10 random thoughts about them in general and ones I’ve read specifically.

    1. Woops, this was not supposed to go out until midnight. I guess I’ll have to hide it until then, LOL. Nice we have some similar tastes in books.

    1. I’m not intimidated by big books (obviously by looking at this TBR) but too many in a row can be exhausting. Have to find a good time to read The Poppy War.

    1. Thanks! I love things Viking (I’m a descendant of Ivar the Boneless, LOL). This seems like a wintry read so I should try to hit it in April rather than wait until May/June.

        1. I did a lot of genealogy several years ago. If you can find yourself related to some king or queen you can find out a lot of cool people you’re related to. Hmmm… we’re supposed to have a snowstorm next week… maybe I should make it my next read after I finish The Devouring Gray.

  1. King of Fools was on my list this week too! I really want to read Priory but I have to finish Kingdom of Ash first as I can’t be reading two massive books at once and I’m really struggling to get through KoA unfortunately!

  2. I’m glad you’re liking the Shadow and Bone trilogy! I’m currently making my way through it (…very slowly) before I get to King of Scars, and I love being back in this world.
I have an ARC of Spin the Dawn too, which I hope I’ll be able to read this spring as well – I love its premise and that cover is gorgeous.
And… good luck with Priory of the Orange Tree! I want to read it at some point but I’m too intimidated.

    1. Big books don’t really intimidate me, but when faced with 2 books and one is shorter… the shorter one will probably win.

I finished Ruin and Rising this morning and started on the Six of Crows duology on audiobook, so those are like extra books I can fit in… then I can get to King of Scars at some point.

  3. Hah, I bought The Poppy War when it was on sale, too. Maybe I’ll manage to read it soon? Probably not. πŸ™‚ But The Priory of the Orange Tree sounds good as well. Congrats on knocking 8 books off the winter TBR, too.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

    1. Thanks!

I’m a sucker for those Amazon.com sales, LOL. But it does sound good, so hopefully I’ll get to it soon. Not sure which one I want to read next though. Maybe I’ll do a TBR jar with these and let fate pick my next book off this list…

  4. That’s a great reading list! I’ve read or I plan on reading most of these. I loved The Bear and the Nightingale and the Poppy War, I hope you do too. And Spin the Dawn has an amazing cover!

    1. I think the cover is what drew me to the book most. I’m going to write the TTT about things that make me pick up a book… the cover is definitely one of them!

  5. You did amazing on your winter TBR. Dang!

Kingdom of Ash is still taunting me from my Kindle. I am thinking I might need a reread of the works before I read the very last.

I’m also super excited about Priory. I was sold at dragons. πŸ™‚

    1. I’ve been chipping away at the Throne of Glass series since last summer. A reread of all the books is a pretty big commitment, although I guess if you read them when they first came out, it would be easy to forget a lot. It’s like The Song of Ice and Fire. If A Dream of Spring is ever released (20 years from now, LOL), I might need a reread of all the others.

    1. I’m sure you read some other books that were just as good though. I tend to refer to my seasonal TBRs when I plan out what book to read next, which is probably why I get a lot of them done.

  6. That’s a pretty great track record with your winter tbr. Hope it gets even better with the spring tbr. πŸ˜€
Poppy War has been on my tbr for some time too! Also, I liked Sky in the Deep so I hope you enjoy it too.

    1. Maybe I can read all 10!

I think I’ll read Sky in the Deep next. Get the wintry type reads out of the way while we still have snow on the ground.

  7. Priory is really good. I’ve read about half now and it’s definitely one I’ll be carrying on with.
I really enjoyed the Winternight trilogy, it was so magical and I thought the characters were great. Hope you enjoy it too πŸ™‚

    1. I seem to be doing that with V.E. Schwab. I own three of her books (I think) yet I haven’t read one yet. I want to soon!
